Sleep is the best way to recover the body. However, there are many things that can happen during sleep. Consciously or not, we’ve all experienced some problems of sleep disorders, such as delirium. What about other distractions? Well, here are ten unique type of sleep disorder, as reported by Live Science.

1. Nightmare
People with nightmare disorder often wake up in a cold sweat in the middle of the night. They have terrible dreams during sleep. As a result, they may be afraid to go back to sleep. What are the causes of bad dreams? According to the American Sleep Association (ASA), stress and lack of sleep is a major trigger of a nightmare. Guidance counseling is one way to reduce the interference of nightmare.

2. Sleepwalking
About 15% of adults sometimes get up and walks in a state of sleep. In children, the percentage is even higher. Unfortunately, no one knows what is the cause of this sleeping disorder. However, some medical experts say that stress and insomnia can be a trigger factor of this disorder. Although it looks simple, it can be a dangerous sleep disorder.

3. Head feels like it will explode
This sleep disorder makes a person feel his head would explode or rupture. Especially when they are startled by a loud noise. Medical experts do not know what the cause of the strange syndrome is, but they know that it is not associated with serious problems.

4. Hallucinating when sleepy
We may often see strange things in dreams. So, how can we see it when not dreaming? It’s called hypnagogic hallucinations, which occurrs during the transition from drowsiness to sleep.

5. Night terrors
Unlike nightmares, this disorder makes a person scream, struggle, panic, and walk back and fort. In some cases, night terrors are combined with sleepwalking habits.

6. Sleep paralysis
Sleep paralysis is a condition when a person feels claustrophobic, chest tightness, difficulty moving and speaking. Sleep paralysis usually occurs in seconds or minutes.

7. Nocturnal eating disorders (eating while sleeping)
You wake up in the middle of the night feeling hungry. In a state still half awake, you begin to eat foods that are available in the refrigerator or dining table. Unfortunately, the cause of this disorder is not yet known. In order to reduce the habit of snacking in the middle of the night, you can take drugs that increase dopamine, a hormone associated with feelings of happiness.

8. Sexsomnia or sleep sex
Sexsomnia is one type of parasomnia, like a state of sleep-walking. Those who have sexsomnia will engage in sexual activity while they are asleep, such as masturbating or having sex. Strangely, when they wake, the sufferers do not remember what they had done. In a journal published by the Social Psychiatry and Psychiatric Epidemiology, this is caused by several factors, such as lack of sleep, stress, alcohol, drugs, and physical contact with your partner, are triggers of sexsomnia.

9. Insomnia
Insomnia is the inability to sleep. This sleep disorder can cause irritability and lack of concentration during the day. In the long term, the problem of insomnia can be fatal for your health. Insomnia is often associated with obesity, high blood pressure, and heart attacks.

10. REM behavior disorder
REM sleep (rapid eye movement) is one part of the sleep cycle. The condition is characterized by rapid eye movements and a stage of the emergence of a dream. Adults spend about 20% of their sleep time to be in this phase. What is the REM behavior disorder? During REM sleep, a person will experience paralysis while dreaming. In contrast, REM behavior disorder makes a person does not experience the condition that they act beyond the dreams. The disorder makes it easy to lose control, such as yelling, hitting, and acting hysterically while sleeping.
