3 New Ways to Help Quit Smoking
It is of course not an easy thing for smokers to try to stop smoking, it may be the most difficult thing to do for them. Especially for smokers who had been addicted to nicotine for a long time. However, if these smokers have the intention and will to stop their bad habit, they could actually look for some help to make it easier for them to quit smoking.
Based on a new study which was published in the Nicotine and Tobacco Research journal, it was mentioned that there are actually many unexpected sources of help that you can get if you want to get help in quitting smoking. According shine, there three quite effective ways to help people quit smoking, here they are:
Eat fruits and vegetables
The study involved participants, which were 1,000 smokers who were randomly selected. These smokers were given questions about their smoking habits and their habits of eating fruits and vegetables. In a follow-up interview, they were re-contacted after 14 months later.
They were again asked whether they started to quit smoking after consuming fruits and vegetables. The study found that those who consumed the most fruits and vegetables are three times more likely to be free from tobacco for at least 30 days when compared to those who ate fewer fruits and vegetables.
The researchers also found that smokers who ate more fruits and vegetables, are likely to smoke less per day. They noted a lower score when tested for nicotine dependence. This is because fruits and vegetables are foods high in fiber that can make people feel full so that they are able to suppress hunger and become less interested in smoking.
“Smokers are sometimes confused between feeling hungry with the desire to smoke,” said researcher Jeffrey P. Haibach, MPH, in a statement released in the study journal.
Use the help of hypnosis
Over the years, many people claim that hypnosis can help a cigarette addict to stop their bad habit. Now Canadian researchers have found that smokers are 4.6 times more likely to quit smoking if they underwent hypnosis therapy.
How does hypnosis work? Therapist affects the smoker, affecting them to be more relaxed and then make a statement like, “I do not like cigarettes” which will continue to stick in the mind of the smoker at the subconscious level and change their behavior after being discharged from a relaxed state.
If you try this method, using the help of a certified hypnosis therapist, you may find benefit from this assistance.
Try acupuncture
China tried to apply the therapeutic use of needles to address addiction problems. A very thin needle is usually inserted through the skin at specific points of your body.
The point lies in the meridian, through vital energy. Acupuncture is widely used to treat various conditions, particularly to overcome the problem of pain.
Even so, the efficacy of acupuncture to help stop smoking has not been proven to be 100 percent effective. However, research in Canada recently found that smokers are 3.5 times more likely to quit the habit, if they undergo regular acupuncture, compared with smokers who did not undergo acupuncture treatment at all.
