4 Food label terms you should know

Except for natural foods, processed foods and mass produced food has labels that serves to inform you about the content of what is contained in these foods as well as the date of production. Whether we realize it or not, sometimes there are a lot of confusion with regard to the expiration date on the label of foods that can lead to misunderstandings.

Here are some of the terms of food labels that you should know:

“Sell before” date
Actually the label is aimed at sellers not to consumers. This label tells you when the product should be displayed for sale and must be purchased prior to that date.

“Use before” date
This label indicates when it is appropriate to use. Because when you use or consume it on that date, then that’s when the peak of maturity of these foods. The label itself is written by the manufacturer.

“Best before” date
This food label actually is just to show the quality of the food, not the level of safety. If you are going to eat food past this date, it does not mean you have to throw it away. This date only shows when the best quality of the food is.

“Expiration” date
This label clearly indicates when the last time the food must be consumed.
