E-Coli Bacteria is one of the most harmful bacteria in the world. These bacteria not only make people sick, but also cause death. E-coli bacteria outbreak that had occurred in Europe makes a lot of countries begin to be aware of the products of vegetables or fruit that are imported.
If you are concerned with the health of your family, here are five ways to avoid e-coli bacterial infection by Ruth Frechman, a nutritionist in Los Angeles and a spokeswoman for the American Dietetic Association, as reported by Yahoo! Shine.
1. Hand washing
Hand washing is the most important thing to do, especially after using the bathroom, touching animals and before preparing food. Rinse hands with water also helps reduce bacteria.
2. Cook beef properly
Beef should be cooked to a temperature of 70 degrees Celsius (use a thermometer to be sure). Cooking green vegetables for 15 seconds at a temperature of 70 degrees Celsius will kill the E-coli bacteria.
3. Avoid foods at risk of E-Coli
Avoid unpasteurized foods such as milk, cheese, and juice. Also avoid contact with feces of humans and animals.
4. Do not swallow water carelessly
When swimming in a pool, river or pond, do not swallow the water. Some types of E. coli can cause disease by producing something called Shiga toxin. Infection begins when you swallow invisible Shiga toxin. This can happen when you swallow a human or animal waste with your mouth.
5. Clean habits
Clean all cutting boards and kitchen appliances such as a shelf or refrigerator. Wash hands after touching raw meat. Distinguish cutting board to cut fruits or vegetables and raw meat, such as chicken, fish or red meat.
Common symptoms after E-coli bacteria attack includes stomach cramps, diarrhea or sometimes accompanied by vomiting, dysentery and fever.
