1. Omega 3
If you do not like to eat fish, just consume omega-3 supplements every day to boost your immune system. Omega 3 is able to increase the activity of phagocytes, cells that fight flu bacteria. In addition, omega-3 also protects the lungs from colds and respiratory infections.

2. Astragalus
Astragalus is the roots of Chinese medicine that stimulates the production of white blood cells to fight infection. Research in 2007 showed that astragalus enhances the immune system in mice. Even so, it must be remembered that astragalus will be nutritious when consumed for six to eight weeks.

3. Echinacea
This herbal plant is able to shorten the illness from the flu if taken right away from the start of when flu symptoms appeared. Even so, some supplements only contain a small amount of echinacea. Echinacea also cause side effects such as diarrhea and itching.

4. Vitamin D
Nutrients such as vitamin D is good for preventing colds and boost immunity. People with weak levels of vitamin D are more at risk of respiratory infections by 36 percent compared to those with sufficient vitamin D. Since getting vitamin D from sunlight is quite difficult, you can take vitamin D supplements.

5. Ginseng Supplements
Consuming two capsules of ginseng supplements every day help people recover from flu two times faster than those taking a placebo. Ginseng contains compounds that increase white blood cells and interleukins needed by the immune system.

6. Zinc
Research shows that taking 30 mg of zinc supplements at the start of the flu is able to shorten the healing period. But do not consume too much, because consuming more than 50 mg a day of zinc supplement can suppress the immune system and inhibit the absorption of other essential minerals.

7. Vitamin C
You can eat food or fruits and vegetables that contain vitamin C. But if you do not have time, you can also take supplements of vitamin C. A study in 2007 showed that vitamin C supplements can prevent and treat flu. However, if  you take too much vitamin C supplements, you could be at risk of kidney stones, stomach disorders, or bleeding on the inside.

Those are some supplements that can be used to fight flu virus. Some supplements are good and do not have side effects. However, some others are no good if consumed in excess amount and causes side effects. So, be careful before selecting the supplements that you consume.
