Are Vitamins Really Not Beneficial for the Body?

October 11, 2011 By: Lisa Category: Supplements and Vitamins

Supplement benefitsWhat happens if you ingest three thousand vitamin supplements for five months? This is the experience of Time journalists, John Cloud.

Cloud experimented by taking weight loss vitamin pills, abstinence from eating, and exercised appropriately to the advice by vitamin company in America. He consumed 22 pills per day, including some pieces of protein and fiber psyllium.

Doctors checked his condition before and after the experiment. The only significant change is the level of vitamin D that increased sharply, so does the circumference of his body – nearly five kilograms.

The experiment was inspiring, both scientific and business communities in Australia: vitamin is an industry worth tens of millions of dollars.

According to Associate Professor in the field of nutrition, Samir Samman, from Sydney University, the greatest evidence of the use of vitamins in the human body indicate that its effectiveness is still questionable. He showed clinical evidence when people who have cardiovascular diseases, which were given vitamin A, E, C, beta-carotene, and toxic chemicals such as sulfur.

“The first findings that is most important is that vitamin does not change anything, it means no progress from those who consume a lot of vitamins in relation to cardiovascular disease,” said Professor Samman.

Statistical data also shows high doses of vitamins can increase the likelihood of patient deaths. Professor Samman said Cloud experimental results indicate a similar conclusion as the results of academic research on the effectiveness of vitamins.

“A little information suggests that vitamin is only useful in certain conditions,” said Professor Samman. “If in good health and enough nutritious food, why should people consume additional supplements?”

Australian Medical Association chairman Dr Brian Morton praised Cloud experiment. “This is probably is not the best test evidence, but the experimental results is not a bad thing as a way to monitor how effective the supplements are for you,” said Dr Morton.

“I suggest you talk with your doctor before you start taking vitamins,” Dr. Morton said. “If you want to do it yourself, write down why you do this and what do you want? Buy vitamins for a month and then feel, do you feel better?”

Adjusting diet so the low Glycemic levels are predominant can be accomplished by reducing intake of foods with high glucose ratings such as white bread, processed cereals, candy, chocolate bars & other junk food while making foods with lower glucose levels a bigger priority in the diet.

Yes-and they work! Eat normal, balanced meals. Cut out all white food: sugar, white flour, white rice, etc., it works.
