Avoid Traffic Noise To Avoid Heart Attack
Traffic noise is often a test case for the majority of the population in large cities. Not infrequently these problems lead to stress, although the level is still easy to control. Before, it was even known that traffic noise causes stroke in elderly people.
Increasingly dense traffic means the greater the risk of heart attack that will come, especially for those living in areas prone to noise and congestion. Thus the results of a study conducted in Denmark.
A research carried out for 10 years on 50,000 respondents found that for every 40 decibels of traffic noise on the road, increasing the risk of heart attack increased by 12 percent.
“We think the traffic noise, especially at night is very dangerous because they interfere with sleep. However, high noise exposure can also occur at any time. This will increase the concentration of stress hormones in the body, thus increasing the risk of heart attack,” said Mette Sorenson, leader research at the Danish Cancer Society.
Sorenson and his team found links between heart attacks and highways, as well as the calculation of air pollution levels. They estimate that 4 percent of all cases of heart attack in Denmark are caused by this problem, as written in the PLoS ONE journal.
He suggested to choose a house far stay away from noise in order to rest well. This will also avoid the dangers of air pollution, but the fact is that there are many of us consider this as a trivial thing.
“You may think that you have gotten a good sleep, but when looking at the results of tests on lab, you will notice that your sleep stages are very disturbed,” he added.
In this study, respondents were asked to fill in data of where they live and whether they had experienced a heart attack or not, as well as other information including their diet and activity patterns. Researchers also consider other factors that influence the risk of heart attack such as, gender, smoking, fruit and vegetable intake, and body mass index.
Another study also showed that high exposure to noise increases blood pressure.
Air pollution and noise tends to be higher in big cities, but Serenson stressed that the possibility of living a quieter atmosphere can still be overcome by staying slightly away from the city and especially from the highway.
Luckily for those of you who live far from the highway. For the Sake of Your Heart.
Besides the noise that could be harmful is of course the pollution. Previously, it was known that air pollution reduce baby body weight. In addition, research had revealed that air pollution shortens age by six months!
