Diabetes which is associated with blood sugar level is not only influenced by food. Habits like too much sleep or less sleep at night are also associated with this disease. A research shows that too much sleep at night or lack of sleep can increase the risk of diabetes.
Sleeping too much or too little can cause a person to gain weight. A recent study showed that people who slept nine to 10 hours per night had a 21 percent higher risk of obesity than those who slept between seven to eight hours each night. The number of exercise and even the type of food consumed does not affect the risk.
For some young people who are exposed to headaches, sleeping longer than usual, for example during a holiday or traveling can cause headaches. Researchers believe that too much sleep affect neurotransmitters in the brain, including serotonin. People who sleep too much during the day and cause them trouble sleeping at night too often get headaches in the morning.
4. Back pain
It is said that when someone experience back pain, doctors will tell them to sleep. But now this is not valid. Nowadays even doctors tell patients to do some light activity to combat back pain, as well as asking the patient to reduce sleep.
Depression is often associated in people affected by insomnia. But about 15 percent of people with depression is reported to have too much sleep. It most likely can make their depression worse. Regular sleep at the same time is needed by patients with depression.
6. Heart disease
A research conducted by the Nurses Health Study on 72,000 women found that women who slept nine to 11 hours a day had a 38 percent higher risk for heart disease. However, researchers have not found a definitive reason for the association of heart disease with a very long sleep. Previously it was also known that too much sleep causes women to be vulnerable to stroke.
Several studies have found that people who slept for nine hours or more had a higher mortality risk than those who sleep eight hours every night. There is no definitive reason why this can happen. However, research shows that depression and low socioeconomic status are associated with too much sleep. Experts speculate that this has contributed to the increased risk of death if a person gets too much sleep.
Lack of sleep or too much sleep is not good. Reasonably sufficient sleep is the best thing you should get to keep in shape in order to stay healthy and avoid many diseases.
