If you are a type of person who likes to stay up late all night and have lack of sleep, then you should now be careful. Late nite sleep does not only cause acne, but it could lead to more serious diseases. According to a recent study conducted by scientists, it was revealed that lack of sleep or sleep deprivation can increase the risk of heart disease and stroke.
Sleep deprivation is not a condition that should be taken easy. It is actually a condition of not having or getting enough sleep. The condition could be either chronic or acute.
A chronic sleep deprivation can cause fatigue, daytime sleepiness, clumsiness and weight loss or even weight gain. It adversely affects the brain and cognitive function.
The research itself was done by a team from the Chicago Medical School, United States. From the study, the researchers found that adults who sleeps less than six hours a night had significantly greater risk of stroke, heart attack, and congestive heart failure.
There were 3,019 patients who were involved in this study. All the participants – from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey, a survey about the health of U.S. households – were aged over 45 years old. From the research, scientists’ analysis showed that people who sleep less than six hours a night, had two times greater risk sof stroke or heart attack and are 1.6 times more likely to develop congestive heart failure.
According to the Times of India, however, sleeping for more than eight hours in the other hand also increases the risk two times more to be affected by Angina. Angina itself orAngina pectoris, is a chest pain that is caused by ischemia (a lack of blood, thus a lack of oxygen supply and waste removal) of the heart muscle, this is generally caused by obstruction or spasm of the coronary arteries (the heart’s blood vessels).
Sleeping too long also 1.1 times increase the risk of coronary arterial disease (narrowing of the arteries in the heart). Coronary artery disease, which is the main cause of angina, is caused by atherosclerosis (a condition where an artery wall thickens due to the accumulation of fatty materials like cholesterol) of the cardiac arteries.
Based on these findings, Chief of Cardiology and Professor of Medicine Chicago Medical School Rohit R. Arora asserts, “Sleeping for 6-8 hours every day gives the lowest risk of cardiovascular disease in the long run.”
So it is important for you to give more attention to your sleeping time. Always give the right amount of time for your body to rest. Previously, it was even known that lack of sleep causes obesity. Other bad effects of sleep deprivation is that for men, sleep deprivation lowers sexual drive. To remain healthy, it is important to get enough rest.Tagged with: heart disease, Lack Of Sleep, lack of sleep heart disease, lack of sleep stroke, Sleep Deprivation, sleep deprivation heart disease, sleep deprivation stroke, stroke,
