Beware, You Could Suffer from Urinary Tract Infections



Health Tips – Infections of the urinary tract or widely known as urinary tract infection (UTI) can occur in your urinary system, both the kidneys, ureters, bladder and urethra.

Most of these infections involve the lower urinary tract, the bladder and the urethra. You should also know the causes of urinary tract infection.

“Most people can avoid UTI by drinking two and a half to three liters of water a day and pay attention to their stomachs,” says urologist, Hector Pimentel, MD, as reported by Prevention.

According to him, constipation or diarrhea may increase your risk of UTI.

Everyone is likely to suffer from this disease. So who are at most risk from urinary tract infections? Here’s the explanation.

1. Women who are sexually active

Women who have sex several times a week is the most prone to UTI.

Honeymoon cystitis that occurs when bacteria hanging around the anus enters the urethra.

Female urethra is slightly shorter than men, so bacteria have a shorter distance to travel.

2. Men in their mid-50s and older

With the increase of age, the prostate gland in men gets bigger which could press the urethra and make it difficult or sometimes impossible to urinate.

And when the urine piles then the infection can arise.

If  have difficulty urinating, wake up in the middle of the night to urinate or have pain, enlarged prostate may be the cause, so you should consult your doctor.

3. Postmenopausal women

Older women are at high risk for UTI because their estrogen levels are lower. Several studies have shown that using estrogen creams on the vagina can help.

4. A boy baby or toddler who are not circumcised

If you choose not to have your baby boy circumcised then you should regularly clean up your child’s genitals, as this is the best way to help avoid UTI.

5. Elders

UTI can adversely affect elders, usually in women. Changes in mental status occurs more frequently when you get older.

Ammonia levels in your blood affects your mental level so each time elder woman start acting strangely.

The first thing you do is call the doctor and ask that perform urine tests to know whether they are affected by UTI.
