Risk of Autism in Children Can be Seen from the age of the Grandfather

For a man who has children after the age of 50 years will not only increase the child’s risk of developing autism, but also for his grandson. This was stated in a recent study conducted by the Karolinska Institutet, in Sweden.

Compared with men who have children at the age of 20 years, older men are 1.79 times likely to have a granddaughter who is autistic and 1.67 times have a grandson who is autistic. (more…)

Flu during pregnancy increase the risk of autism in children?

Pregnant women exposed to influenza have double risk of children with autism, according to a research. While pregnant women who has a fever for more than a week at risk of having children with autism up to three times greater.

This was discovered after researchers observed 96,000 children in Denmark. This is most likely caused by a weak immune system during pregnancy which ultimately affect the brain development of children. (more…)

detect autism earlyIt turns out that autism can be detect at an early age. Recent research has shown that autism can be recognized in infants in the first year. Autism can be caused by many factors, study even revealed that babies with less weight have a chance of autism.

“Symptoms are characterized by different brain response than other babies,” said Director of the Center for Brain and Cognitive Development at Birkbeck College, University of London, Johnson, last week.

The conclusion, which was published by the Current Biology Journal, followed 104 study of infants aged six to ten months. Then resumed when the baby was three years old. For the purposes of the study, the researchers used passive sensors that are placed on the scalp. The device is enabled to record brain activity while the baby’s face turns after being face to face with others. (more…)

Babies With Less Weight Have Chance of Autism

Babies born weighing less than 1.8 kg have a greater chance to be autistic than babies born with normal weight. A study, published in the ‘Pediatric journal’ examined 862 children in New Jersey who were born with low weight to young people aged 21 years.

As many as five percent of those were diagnosed with autism. Even so, experts say that this research needs to be deepened in order to understand the relationship between the two. The relationship between low birth weight with cognitive and motor problems was already known from previous studies. While this study, the researchers said, is a premier research that tries to find out whether these children have a risk of becoming autistic. (more…)
