Coffee Does Not Increase Hypertension Risks

coffee hypertensionCoffee often becomes an enemy for people with high blood pressure or hypertension such as heart disease and stroke. However, a study in the United States revealed that there are no evidence that coffee may increase the risk of the disease.

‘American Journal of Clinical Nutrition’ reported the result of the research after combining previous studies, which includes a study of 170 thousand people. “As a result, habits of drinking 3 cups of coffee a day has nothing to do with an increased risk of hypertension,” said Liwey Chen, a researcher of Public Health at the Louisiana University in New Orleans, according to Reuters. Sweet Drinks Increase Risk of Hypertension

A research team found that people who consume more soda and other sugary drinks have blood pressure levels higher than those who consumed less.

Study author Ian J. Brown, of the department of epidemiology and biostatistics at the Scool of Public Health Imperial College London, said that the risk of high blood pressure due to sugary drinks can be larger when salt intake is higher. “Salt is a cause of high blood pressure,” he said, according to Healthday. Results showed that reducing food and beverages that contain a lot of fructose, can reduce the risk of hypertension.
