Cellulite is the unattractive, bumpy appearance found in different parts of the body. The condition is more common in women, but some men have it too. Cellulite is a matter of great concern, especially for women, as it shatters their confidence and causes depression. You don’t feel at ease in social gatherings out of fear that someone might spot those peaks and valleys that you’ve tried to hide using a number of cosmetic products.

Let us take a look at the causes and treatment options for this condition.

The condition is caused due to the pushing of fat cells that causes the connective tissues to bulge outwards. The most common factor responsible for this condition is the accumulation of fat and harmful toxins in your body. The condition is also found to be hereditary in some people. This explains why the condition is found in some people even though they’re not bulky. Other causes can include hormonal problems, but no hormone therapy has been found to be effective against the problem.

There are several treatment options for the malady. These include:

* Surgical treatments: you can head off to a healthcare center, and ask for the surgical treatments available. Liposuction is a surgical method used to remove the problem from the body. Though the surgical treatments are known to remove the condition from your body, they are a little too expensive and not many people can afford this option. Besides, if you don’t maintain a healthy lifestyle after this treatment, you might have to see it again.
* Methylxanthines: these are present in natural treatment creams and are known to break down excess body fat. If used alone, such a cream is seldom effective in giving any real results against the condition.
* Laser therapy: this therapy makes use of a combination of massage or suction with laser therapy to reduce the bumpy appearance of this condition temporarily. There are therapies that make use of low-level laser beam, and are FDA approved. Multiple sessions are necessary to see any lasting results, and the treatment is again quite expensive.
* Nutritional supplements: there are a number of nutritional supplements available on the market. These supplements promise to reduce the condition significantly. Unfortunately, no studies are available to prove the efficacy of these treatments. Some may even pose a risk to your health. FDA does not investigate these products since these aren’t drugs, but only nutritional supplements. So, if you’re looking forward to availing this option, you must do thorough research on the herbal extract you’ll be using.
* Massage therapy: the FDA approves the therapy for a temporary reduction of this condition. While there may be a temporary decrease, the procedure seems to redistribute body fat, rather than eliminating it permanently. Regular sessions of the treatment are necessary to observe any results.
* Wraps: these decrease the water retention in your body and improve the appearance of skin. This method is also temporary and has to be performed repeatedly.

Is there anything that works??? A well balanced diet and regular exercise is what you need to quit this problem for good. These remedies are not only effective against the condition, but also have scores of other health benefits for your body. In order to get results, you will have to dedicate time and effort. There are no shortcuts that work!
