Daydreaming Cause Memory Loss
Every person surely have experienced daydreaming and fantasizing about the future or something that is beautiful. Well you should not daydream to much because it can make you lose some of your memory.
Have you ever had trouble remembering events before you daydream? If so, then it is normal.
Recent research found that daydreaming can cause loss of memory, especially memory before one begins to daydream. The further you daydreaming, it will increase memory loss.
A previous study also found that thinking about something else, either daydreaming or mind-wandering, can block access to memory of the past.
In the new study, scientists investigated some participants which were divided into two groups.
The first group was asked to view a list of words which appear on computer screens. Then participants were asked to daydream, thinking about the events that interested them. Then, participants in the second group were asked only to see a list of words, without daydreaming.
At the end of the test, both groups of participants were asked to recall as many words as possible from what was seen from this list.
The result, the group that was asked to daydream did not remember much words compared with the group that did not daydream. This suggests that daydreaming can eliminate some newly acquired memory.
This study has been published in Psychological Science, a journal of the Association for Psychological Science.
“Daydreaming can make you feel like you are in a different situation, because you can not remember events that happened before you daydream,” said Peter F. Delaney of the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, according to Psychcentral.
