Do not wash chicken before cooking it
Usually washing food before cooking it is a normal thing to do. The goal is to clean existing pesticides in vegetables and bacteria presented in animal foods.
But in fact a study as reported by from bbc.co.uk, showed a different opinion. This study even advise you not to immediately wash raw chicken before cooking. Research conducted mentions that this action may spread campylobacter bacteria that exist in the chicken. These bacteria can spread to the arms, desk, clothes, and kitchen tools through the water splash.
Still according to the study, campylobacter bacteria is a type of bacteria that causes most food poisoning with symptoms such as diarrhea, abdominal pain, abdominal cramps, and fever. Therefore, this study also suggest that you should instantly boil until half-cooked before cooking in order to kill bacteria in it. Then discard the cooking water and wash the chicken. After that you can process the chicken into food that you like.
In addition, FSA also recommends that you separate the kitchen and cutting board apparatus that is used to cook the chicken meat with other food ingredients. It aims to further minimize the spread of bacteria.
