According to scientists, one banana for breakfast, lunch and dinner provide enough potassium to reduce the risk of blood clots in the brain as much as 21 percent.

The findings, according to the Times of India also shows that stroke can be prevented with the consumption of other potassium-rich foods such as spinach, nuts, fish, and lentils.

In a recent study, scientists analyzed data from eleven different studies started in the mid-1960s and compiled the results.

They found a daily intake of about 1,600 mg of potassium, half of the recommended of 3,500 mg for adults, enough to reduce the risk of stroke more than a fifth time.

An average banana contains about 500 milligrams of potassium, which helps lower blood pressure and control the fluid balance in the body. Potassium deficiency causes a person to experience irritability, nausea, irregular heartbeat, and diarrhea.

Researchers from the University of Warwick and University of Naples said, “Intake of potassium in most people is far from the recommended daily amount.”

In addition to reducing the risk of stroke, the intake of potassium is able to reduce their salt intake. This study has been published in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology.

Other benefits of bananas is that it could be a natural way to relieve pain. Bananas are also known as super foods to increase energy.
