Eating yogurt, a tasty way to lose weight!
Good news for yogurt lovers who are looking to lose weight. Yogurt that contains probiotics is not only good for digestion but also can help you lose weight quickly, according to a recent study published in the Journal of the American College of Nutrition.
“Probiotics are known to contain beneficial bacteria for the human digestive environment and suppress the bad bacteria to multiply. Many research shows that probiotics help reduce the risk of inflammation, controll insulin sensitivity and lowers the level of cortisol in the body. Several factors are known to be the key to reducing fat in stomach, “said Rania Batayneh, MPH, author of The One One Diet.
In their study the researchers conducted observations of 75 people who are overweight and obese. They divided the participants into eight groups, namely the group who underwent regular yogurt diet, probiotic yogurt and probiotic yogurt with low-calorie diet, as reported by the Women’s Health Mag (28/08).
At the end of the study, researchers found that the group using probiotic yogurt and low-calorie diets had the greatest reduction in BMI (body mass index) and the most decreased amount of fat in the body. In addition, the participants had low levels of leptin in their system. Leptin is a hormone that affects the satisfaction of one’s appetite. High leptin levels usually trigger a person to eat more and cause obesity.
Although this study shows a link between eating yogurt with weight loss, but it does not prove cause and effect. Even so Batayneh explained that it makes sense if the probiotics in yogurt help you lose weight and prevent inflammation that often occurs together with obesity.
But before you rush to buy yogurt to help lose weight, Batayneh recommend that you choose a yogurt that has probiotics or containing live and active bacteria.
