Phenylethylamine and theobromine are two components in chocolate that may cause dilation of blood vessels so that the head pain may appear immediately after you consume it. phenylethylamine functions as a neurotransmitter in the mammalian central nervous system. While theobromine has a similar, but lesser, effect than caffeine in the human nervous system.
