Green Tea Help Fight Bad Cholesterol
Tea is known to have many health benefits for the body. There many types of tea that offers wonders to the human body. Although many had compared the efficacy of black and green tea, green tea is known to have many benefits for the human body.
A recent study published in the Journal of the American Dietetic Association, reinforcing evidence that green tea has an effect to fight the bad cholesterol in the body.
A study involving over 1,000 participants in a series of clinical trials showed that consumption of green tea on a regular basis helps to cut bad cholesterol levels as much as 5-6 points more than other types of treatment.
In a trial for three weeks to six months, participants were divided into three groups. The first group were asked to consume green tea, the second group were asked to take green tea supplements, and the last group took a placebo.
Consumption of a cup of green tea directly is shown to benefit more than the intake of supplements containing catechins, a green tea compound that plays a role to reduce cholesterol absorption in the intestine.
“But remember, green tea can not replace the effect of cholesterol-lowering drugs. It only leads to an element of prevention,” said senior researcher Olivia Phung, assistant professor of pharmacy at Western University of Health Sciences in Pomona, California, according to Reuters.
Olivia suggests, the consumption of green tea in moderate amount as a part of a healthy diet to prevent the buildup of bad cholesterol in the body. However, caffeine content in tea is an important concern, especially those who are taking certain medications. You should know the medicinal values of green tea, and start doing a healthy diet today.
