How to Deal With Abdominal Obesity in Children
Abdominal obesity or fat around the stomach is now a growing problem among children. This fast food generation has better access to high calorie fattening food and tend to spend lesser time engaging in physical activities. The resultant obesity in such kids can also give way to other health conditions like diabetes, heart disease, sleep apnea, high cholesterol etc. Avoid these risks by encouraging your children to adopt a healthy lifestyle and deal with abdominal obesity.
A good diet is not only a concern for health conscious adults. Children can also benefit from healthy eating. Include a healthy mix of vegetables, fruits and proteins to balance your child’s meal. Also, set meal and snack schedules throughout the day so that your kid won’t overindulge in the wrong kind of food. Also, make sure that you don’t deprive your child of the foods he/she likes. Portion control is another way you can stop your child from overeating.
You don’t want to push your child to adopt an intense exercise regime. Simple outdoor games and playtime can help add enough activity to his/her life. Monitor your kids TV and computer time. Encourage them to take part in sports and other simple games. Mingling with other kids will help them get over other sedentary activities. Physical activity will also increase his/her stamina and reduce abdominal obesity over time.
Kids above six year can also be encouraged to engage in some easy strength-building exercises like push-ups and pull-ups. Supervise your kids while they exercise. Prepare a well scheduled plan of simple exercises, outdoor activities and nutritious meals to help your child fight abdominal obesity. via: Vanessa Luis
