Long working hours and stressful living gives many of us sleepless nights. Most of us are not aware of our lack of sleep. But Dr. Satish Kaul, Internal Medicine from Columbia Asia Hospital, Gurgaon shares a list of symptoms that affects the body due to lack of sleep.

Dr. Satish Kaul gets to the point, “ A lack of sleep affects the human body in many ways and the results are bad. The body will feel tired and the hormones will not function properly.”

Symptoms of lack of sleep:

  • Dark circles under the eyes
  • Tiredness
  • Nausea
  • Heavy eyes
  • Hair loss
  • Laziness in the morning

Most of us display some of these symptoms daily or at least every week. These should not be taken for granted as they can lead to serious health problems like:

  • Heart diseases
  • Diabetes
  • High blood pressure
  • Poor immune system

Lack of sleep drains us, reduces our sex drive, memory loss, lack of concentration and even leads to a loss of appetite. Furthermore, sleep deprivation affects the brain and our performance levels drop. Sleep deprivation also induces weight gain. Hence, it is important to get sufficient sleep to prevent health problems, in the long run.

For men, you should know that lack of sleep increase the risk of prostate cancer.
