Know the Types of Headaches and How to Treat Them

Headache is not a trivial thing. Not only should you take  medication to relieve the headaches. More than that, it is important to know the types and causes of headaches that you experience.

Only then you can determine the appropriate medication for your headache. Well, here are some types of headaches that are often experienced and the types of medications that can help overcome them.

1. Tension headaches
Tension on the head is very common, you will feel the pain like a strong pressure and heavy weight. This is usually in specific areas such as temples and the back of the head around the neck.

To treat this, you simply use aspirin, ibuprofen, or acetaminophen. According to medical theory, these headaches are caused by contractions of the neck and scalp muscles, including the response to stress. And also the chemical changes that occur in the brain.

2. Cluster headaches
These headaches appear suddenly and repeatedly. Usually accompanied by a very severe attack on one of the head, watery eyes, and nasal congestion. This case is much more experienced by men, although women also have  the possibility of developing this type of headache.

When experiencing this pain, usually people will tend to be restless, uncomfortable and difficult to rest. The cause of this headache is associated with a genetic component. When experiencing this, you better let specialist handle the medication.

3. Sinus headaches
If you have sinusitis, this type of headache is very likely to come. This usually occurs when the sinuses become inflamed, causing infection. To ease it, you can choose drugs or antibiotics and antihistamines, or decongestan. In general, this headache is also accompanied by a fever.

4. Rebound headches
Why are you not allowed to consume too much headache medicine, the reason is because you are very likely to experience rebound headches. This headache appears as a result from the consumption of aspirin drugs, acetaminophen (Tylenol) or ibuprofen (Motrin, Advil), as well as prescription drugs. Treatment can be done through therapy.

5. Migraine headches
Migraine headaches have become common. The type of headache that attacks one side of the head and can last 4 to 27 hours.

Other signs that accompanies this type of headache such a sense of beating severe enough to interfere with your activities. Nausea and vomiting can also be felt as well. In some cases, migraine sufferers also experience visual distortion and numbness in the hand. Usually the doctor will prescribe and require you to rest completely.

In previous research, it was also known that headaches could be triggered by certain foods. In the other hand, there are also some foods that can relieve migraines.
