Late Night Sleep Can Cause Acne

Sleeping late at night is associated with acne in an indirect way. There is no clear evidence showing that sleep deprivation is directly related to the formation of acne. However, studies reveal that indirectly, lack of sleep cause acne and aggravate existing acne.

When often sleeping late at night, it means that you cut the amount of sleep you need to rejuvenate the body. According to Livestrong and Buzzle, lack of sleep can cause stress, increased inflammation, increased insulin resistance and depression.

Stress is an important factor that cause acne. Increased stress can stimulate the adrenal glands that is responsible to produce androgens. Expenditure of these hormones in the body triggers the formation of acne. Stress also affects the immune system, so that it can slow the healing of existing acne.

Lack of sleep can induce systemic inflammation. Report of the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism, states that inadequate sleep causes an increase in cytokines inflammatory. Enhancement substances in the body increases the tendency to produce inflammation. As is known, that acne is an inflammation of the pores in the skin, it is clear that inflammation is triggered because of the increased amount of cytokines in the body.

In addition, lack of sleep causes increased insulin resistance. Thus forcing the body to produce more insulin. This also causes the production of sebum (oil), increasing and the inflammation that causes the potential for the formation of acne.

Sleeping late at night also causes changes in mental and emotional framework that can cause depression. Depression creates a negative attitude in the minds of those who hinder the overall well-being. Overall poor health reduces the body’s healing abilities. Thus, affect acne in a negative way.

Although staying up late does not contribute to acne formation directly, but the resulting factors responsible for the formation of acne.
