Who doesn’t want to live long? Of course everyone dreams of a long and happy life. And to achieve that goal, many people would try hard by doing various methods they know of to be able to live longer. Maria Valentim Gomes, is currently the oldest person in the world according to Guinness World Records. According to the DailyMail, Valentim had breakfast with bread and fruits, and occasionally sip wine.
Valentim is a woman from Brazil who is now 114 years old. She was born on July 9, 1896 at Carangola, Southeast Section of Minas Gerais, where she lived all her life. She is known as Granny Quita, Her family has a stubborn nature. They used to run their own business. Her father also lived to age of 100 years old.
“My grandmother once said, he could live longer she takes car of herself, and does not mind other people’s business.” said Valentim’s grandchild, Jane Ribeiro Moraes, 63, to the local newspapers.
Besides that, Valentim likes consuming Brazilian traditional food, Feijoada, which is a warm bean soup with pieces of salted pork, and cake made from processed chicken meat with lots of spicy sauce.
Guinness World Records Chief Editor, Craig Glenday, says that Valentim is a rare case in Brazil. Knowing that there is someone alive who was born during the reign of Queen Victoria or when the Ford Motor company was founded, or even before George and Ira Gershwin was born. This becomes more unusual because she is a Brazilian.
“There never was a Brazilian who can live a long life, except now,” he said.
Guinness actually got some reports about other candidates who are older, but still can not be proved by facts and documentation.
Valentim’s everyday life is spent in a wheelchair. The family hopes the number of attention may help Valentim’s financial needs for treatment.
According to her family, Valentim gets a little pension. Therefore, for treatment they rely on the public health system as a poor family who can not afford private insurance.
Valentim was married to her husband, Joao, in 1913. Then her husband died in 1946.
