Losing weight can relieve inflammation in the body
If you are overweight, dieting can help you relieve inflammation in the body, says researchers from the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. Because excess weight is synonymous with an increase in inflammation that triggers heart attacks to strokes.
“Our research indicates that diet can reduce the symptoms of inflammation and reduce the risk of heart disease, whether it is low fat or low carb diet, says researcher Kerry Stewart, as quoted by The Daily News.
But Stewart insists that there are important factors to consider when losing weight. According to him, belly fat is an important part that should be targeted by the weight loss.
Researchers analyzed exactly 60 people aged 30-65 years who are overweight or obese, especially those who has more fat in the stomach. For six months, they underwent a low-fat diet or a low-carb diet and performed regular exercise three times a week.
During the process, the researchers noted the signs of inflammation, weight, body mass index (BMI), and the amount of fat in the abdomen.
As a result, respondents who did low-carb diets lost more weight than those who did low-fat diet (12.7 kilograms compared to 8 kilograms). The low-carbohydrate diet group also experienced a decrease in abdominal fat and overall BMI.
“In the two groups, the inflammation in the body is the most substantial changes. So losing weight is able to relieve inflammation in the body,” explained Stewart.
Stewart and his team of researchers reported the results of their study in the American Heart Association Scientific Sessions in Los Angeles.
