Study leader J. David Creswell, said, “We always tell people to stop smoking for health reasons, but rarely we think that loneliness can also be harmful to health in the same way as smoking.”

“We know that loneliness is a major risk factor for health problems and death in older adults. Research suggests that mindfulness meditation training is a promising intervention to improve the health of the elderly,” he said.

Not only that, the research published in the ‘Brain, Behavior and Immunity journal,’ also said that meditation also has other benefits. The study also found that meditation lowers levels of inflammation, which is believed able to develop many diseases. It was also known that meditation helps accelerate healing.
