Nausea drug for pregnant women will not harm the fetus
As reported by CBS News, about one in 10 pregnant women experience nausea and vomiting that is quite severe that it needs to take medication. But they choose to ignore it because they fear of the side effects on the baby.
Through a study involving 600,000 pregnant women, experts from Denmark proved that one nausea drug called Zofran is safe for consumption by pregnant women.
The study was headed by Dr. Bjorn Pasternak from the State Serum Institute in Copenhagen. The results have also been reported in the New England Journal of Medicine.
“Zofran is quite effective and safe. So pregnant women do not have to suffer because of prolonged nausea experienced,” said Dr. Iffath Hoskins, a spokesman for the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists who was not involved in the research.
But researchers still recommend that pregnant women try natural remedies for nausea before taking any medication. For example, herbal drinks, eat foods rich in vitamin B, and more snacking for energy or nutrition.
