This condition is often encountered as a result of more and more time people spent to bow their heads when using a cell phone, computer screen or tablet. This disorder is caused by stretching of the neck in the long term can lead to permanent damage of arthritis if not treated.
The experts said that the growing popularity of the use of smartphones and tablets makes the case due to strain injuries increases. In severe conditions, these muscles will be flexed so it will be painful if it will be straightened out into the correct position.
This is because the joints and tissue in the neck is not built to be able to withstand a bent position for long periods, thus it will cause pain if there is too much pressure. This condition can also spread to headaches, shoulder , arm and wrist pain.
“Imagine if you sit with legs crossed in a long time, then it will feel stiff and sore while returning to its normal position. That’s what happens to the neck,” said Rachael Lancaster, a chiropractor from Freedom Back Clinics in Leeds, according to the Telegraph.
If someone constantly does this, then the body will gradually adapt to these pressures so that it causes increased severity of damage that may not be realized.
Rachael adds if a head and neck position is wrong in a long time, it can cause the natural curvature of the neck which are difficult to be restored thereby potentially causing serious health problems.
Meanwhile, Tim Hutchful of the British Chiropractic Association says children are more at risk of disruption because their head’s weight is bigger than their body. When the head is bent forward then the more muscle is used.
