Here are some foods which can help maintain and improve a person’s immune system, according to prevention.

1. Yogurt
Yogurt has many benefits for health. It contains probiotics, a healthy bacteria that maintains the intestines so that the intestinal tract is free of germs that cause diseases. Studies from the University of Vienna in Austria found that yogurt is effective in improving immunity. A total of 181 factory employees routinely consume probiotic Lactobacillus for 80 days, known to stimulate white blood cells and reduce the number of sick days by 33 percent.

2. Oat and Barley
In a study conducted by Swedish scientists it was found that these grains contain beta-glucan, which is a kind of fiber with stronger antimicrobial and antioxidant. It could enhance immunity in human, heal wounds faster and makes antibiotics work better.

3. Garlic
Potential content of garlic is active allicin that can fight infection and bacteria. English researchers said that people who regularly eat garlic is less likely to get colds. Other studies shows that garlic lovers have a 30 percent lower risk of getting colorectal cancer and 50 percent lower risk of getting stomach cancer.

4. Sea Food
Selenium, which is available in oysters, lobsters, and crabs help the white blood cells produce cytokines proteins to help reduce flu virus in the body. Meanwhile, salmon, mackerel and herring, which are rich in omega 3, can reduce inflammation, increase air flow, protect the lungs from flu and respiratory infections.

5. Chicken soup
Researchers from the University of Nebraska found that chicken soup may inhibit inflammations. This is because the cysteine amino acid  which is released when the chicken is cooked resembles acetylcysteine chemical. While chicken broth added with spices such as garlic and onions can improve immune system

6. Tea
A Harvard study found that people who drank 5 cups of black tea for 2 weeks more can fight interferon virus in their blood. In black tea and green tea there are also a lot of L-theanine amino Asama, which is responsible for improving the immune system.

7. Sweet potatoes
One of the first line of defense which protects the body is the skin, to get a healthy and strong skin, vitamin A is needed. Vitamin A plays a role in the production of connective tissue that is a key component of the skin. One of the best ways to get vitamin A from foods containing beta carotene (in the body it changes into vitamin A), such as sweet potatoes.

8. Mushrooms
Herb expert Douglas Schar DipPhyt, MCPP, MNIMH from the Institute of Herbal Medicine in Washington DC said that mushrooms can increase the production and activity of white blood cells. If there is infection, it can make them more aggressive. Mushrooms which can be consumed is the shiitake, maitake and reishi mushrooms.

To  provide more benefits and immune system runs well, do not forget to keep eating a variety of colorful fruits and vegetables and consume enough water around 8-10 glasses a day.
