How can a women know that they are attacked by breast cancer? What are the signs of symptoms of this disease? Well, the answer to those questions are actually quite simple. The first thing to do if you want to know whether your breast are healthy or not is by doing a self inspection. Try rubbing your breast to feel if there are any lumps, or unusual bumps that feels different from the other areas of the breast.  Not only on the breast alone, but lumps found in lymph nodes located in the armpits can also indicate the disease.

Most cases of breast cancer indeed is suffered by women, but this does not mean that breast cancer can not attack men. There are actually many ways to prevent breast cancer and one of them is losing weight.

Apigenin to fight breast cancer

Based on a research done by a team of researchers from the University of Missouri, it was known that in parsley and celery there are levels of a substance called apigenin. Apigenin can actually be found in many plants. It may contribute to the chemopreventive action of vegetables and fruits. These substance are known to be quite effective to fight breast cancer and some types of tumors that are associated with the progestin hormone. Progestins is most common used  for hormonal contraception , and to prevent endometrial hyperplasia from unopposed estrogen in hormone replacement therapy. Progestins are also used to treat secondary amenorrhea, dysfunctional uterine bleeding and endometriosis, and as palliative treatment of endometrial cancer, renal cell carcinoma, breast cancer, and prostate cancer.

“We know that apigenin slows the progression of breast cancer cells in three ways: by inducing cell death, inhibiting cell proliferation, and by decreasing the reaction of genes associated with cancer growth,” said Salman Hyder, who was one of the study researcher, according to a report in the Huffington Post.

Salman, who is a professor of biomedical, added that during tests that were conducted on rats, it was known that apigenin intake triggers constriction of blood vessels that serve to feed the cancer cells.

“When the vessel is smaller, it means that the flow of nutrients is limited. It also will automatically block the spread of tumor and cancer cells,” said the researchers who published their study in the ‘Hormones and Cancer’ journal.
