Rare case, 7 year old girl suffers two types of blood cancers at once
Lauryn Robinson suffered from a medical condition called Dual Hit Leukaemia. The poor girl suffers from acute lymphoblastic leukemia and non-Hodgkin lymphoma. Lauryn is regarded as the only girl in the world who suffers from two types of leukemia at the same time.
“We’ve never heard of Dual-Hit Leukaemia, but that’s what the doctor told us,” said Emma, Lauryn’s mother, 34, according to the Daily Mail (29/7).
It is estimated that the risk of developing this condition only occurs one in two billion people in the world. However, chemotherapy may make the condition worse and cause Lauryn to suffer seizures and a mild stroke.
Lauryn is now undergoing intensive treatment at Liverpool’s Alder Hey Children’s Hospital. Her mother and father are always by her side and pray that their only daughter could recover. Lauryn fate is in the hands of people who have the exact same spinal cord, but unfortunately, her mom and dad do not have it. Once tested, the spinal cord of Emma and Andrew, father of Lauryn, are not suitable for their young daughter.
To that end, she wishes there are more people who register as donors. Thus, the hospital can select a spinal cord that is exactly the same with Lauryn’s.
