Recognize The Triggers of Excessive Hunger

July 19, 2012 By: Lisa Category: Health

hungryObesity is indeed a frightening specter for people who love to eat. One of the most common cause of obesity is eating without control over what the body needs.

Many are not able to resist the desire to overeat. They are often not even aware of being trapped in false hunger. Be aware of this condition. Know what triggers your hunger all the time that you can prevent, as quoted by dailyspark.com.

1. Lack of sleep
Lack of rest can stimulate the emergence of two hunger triggers: lack of energy and hunger hormones that are not stable.

“Lack of energy is a normal reaction of every person when they experience lack of rest, while the unstable  hunger hormone can trigger decreased levels of leptin (a hormone produced by fat cells to regulate hunger), and increased levels of ghrelin (a hormone produced by the stomach that stimulates hunger), “said the speaker of the American Dietetic Association, Karen Ansel, RD.

Both hormones works against your body. Sleep for eight hours at night is the easiest thing you can do. If you experience lack of rest you could be hungry all day, try the consumption of natural foods that provide additional energy such as fresh fruits, or foods containing complex carbohydrates and protein.

2. Consumption of drugs
If you feel hungry after taking certain medications such as allergy medicine, flu or antibiotics, the drug may be the cause. “The drugs contain mild steroids, and corticosteroids such as prednisone that can lead to tremendous hunger,” says Milton Stokes, RD, owner of One Source Nutrition, LLC.

“If you’ve been eating normal portions of food, never mind the hunger side effects of drugs,” he said. “You better eat chewing gum, hot drinks, or brush teeth.”

3. Thirst or dehydration
Drowsiness and lack of energy is a sign of dehydration is potentially stimulate excessive hunger. Logically, this hunger of the body emerged as a reaction that requires energy refill.

In fact, in the condition, hunger that emerges have artificial nature. You do not really need food, but water. Try the consumption of water or herbal tea. If within 10 minutes you are no longer hungry, you are just dehydrated, not really hungry.
