Relax Sleep Improves Your Memory
In this modern era, where information flow is unstoppable, it often makes the brain fatigue and experience difficulty in remembering new information. Strategies to improve the ability of memory becomes a critical requirement.
Psychologists from the University of Edinburgh, Michaela Dewar, said that there are simple ways to improve memory like relaxed sleep .
As reported by LiveScience, closing your eyes for a moment after receiving new information helps improve the brain’s ability to ‘lock’ the new information.
Activities carried out immediately after receiving the information turned out to affect the brain’s ability to store information.
Dewar involved 33 elderly people aged 61 to 87 years old as a trial sample. To all the respondents, he played two short stories and asked them to remember as much detail. Afterward, he divided respondents into two groups.
The first group was asked to lie relaxed or awake with their eyes closed. While the second group was asked to play ‘find the differences’ in the computer. Each group did this activity for 10 minutes.
The result, the first group was able to recall details of the story more than the second group. When asked to break down the details a week later, the first group were able to recall details than the second group.
The research team believes the consolidation of memories about it are just beginning to be implanted into the brain while participants rested for 10 minutes. Without the consolidation of memory, the brain will not be able to process new information.
