The Mysterious Side of the Human Brain

After thousands of years of various studies, the mysterious side of the human brain is starting to unfold . There are several facts that previously might not have thought of.

The brain is one of the most amazing organ in the human body, because it can control the central nervous system to work normally.

The human brain is complex and consists of about 100 billion nerve (neuron) and there are so many things going on in the brain with a variety of different areas. Therefore the brain is one of the vital organs in human life.

As quoted from HowStuffWorks, Friday (5/3/2010) Here are some facts about the human brain which are not yet widely known:

1. The brain remains active even though the head is not attached to the bodey.
Based on the observations of several stories, it is known that the human brain can remain active for a few seconds after the head is cut off. But doctors believe that this is a reflection of muscle twitching.

Dr Harold Hillman, a former director of the Unity Laboratory of Applied Neural Biology at the University of Surrey said that the death occurred because of the separation of the brain with the spinal cord, but it is painful so many countries do not enforce this method.

2. The brain can learn subconsciously message.
The brain can learn the message that comes from a person unconscious so that later will affect the behavior of the person. Many companies use this as a campaign event in order to influence someone to buy its products.

3. Drugs can cause holes in the brain.
One study says the use of drugs like marijuana can remove  some memory, while for drugs such as cocaine or ecstasy can cause holes in the brain. Actually the only thing that can cause holes in the brain is the result of trauma or physical impact.

In addition to a study from New Scientist that the use of drugs long term can cause abnormal growth of the brain that are permanent, it is difficult to change the behavior of an addict.

4. The colour of Human brain is gray.
Some parts of the body has its own color to blood, tissue, bone or other fluids. But if the human brain preserved in a jar while still beating mostly gra.

While the black component is called the substantia nigra, which is a black neuromelanin, which is a special pigment similar to skin and hair color and a border of the basal ganglia.

5. The human brain is the biggest brain.
Some animals can use his brain to do things done by humans. But in fact the human brain big size compared to the brains of any animal. The average weight of adult human brain of 1.361 pounds, the weight is almost the same as dolphins animals regarded as intelligent animals.

But the weight of the brain compared to body size, so that the human brain still the greatest. Also intelligence is also associated with various components in the brain, and mammals have the largest cerebral cortex responsible for memory function, communication and thinking.

The Benefits of Vitamins B12

Vitamin B12 has a long history and a solid reputation as an energy booster, and it is among the most important of all the B-complex vitamins. Vitamin B12 deficiency may result negative in hematological, neurological, and gastrointestinal conditions. Gastrointestinal effects of B12 deficiency may include diarrhea, constipation, abdominal pain, excessive flatulence, and a burning sensation on the tongue. Vitamin B12, a member of the B-vitamin family, is a term used collectively to represent a group of cobalt-containing compounds known as corrinoids. The principal cobalamins are cyanocobalamin, hydroxocobalamin, and the two coenzyme forms of vitamin B12, methylcobalamin, and 5-deoxyadenosylcobalamin (adenosylcobalamin). However, the term vitamin B12 is usually used to refer to only one of these forms, cyanocobalamin, which is used to fortify foods and nutritional supplements. Vitamin B12 is a water-soluble vitamin required for normal cell activity, DNA replication, and the synthesis of the mood-influencing substance SAMe. Vitamin B12, also known as cobalamin, works with folic acid to produce healthy red blood cells. Vitamin B12 also keeps your central nervous system healthy.

Vitamin B12 helps maintain the myelin sheath that insulates nerve fibres from each other. B12 deficiency can cause a type of anemia marked by fewer but larger red blood cells that’s called pernicious anemia. It can also cause walking and balance problems, sore tongue, weakness, confusion and, in advanced cases, dementia. Vegetarians who eliminate all animal sources from their diet (also known as vegans) may benefit from taking a vitamin B12 supplement. Vitamin B12 is bound to the protein in food. Hydrochloric acid in the stomach releases B12 from proteins in foods during digestion. Hydroxocobalamin is a man-made form of vitamin B12. Vitamin B12’s main functions are in the formation of red blood cells and the maintenence of a healthy nervous system. Prolonged B12 deficiency can lead to nerve degeneration and irreversible neurological damage. People with vitamin B12 deficiency show irregular destruction of the myelin sheaths, which eventually causes paralysis and death.Vitamin B12 levels decrease with age and various measures of cognitive impairment are associated with reduced B12 status. Vitamin B12 deficiencies occur when the body is unable to properly use the vitamin.

Benefits of Vitamin B12

1. Vitamin B12 are critical to the health of the nervous system and to a process that clears homocysteine from the blood.

2. Vitamin B12 is found naturally in food sources (principally animal products) in protein-bound forms.

3. Vitamin B12 deficiency can be a factor in a variety of different health conditions and disorders.

4. Vitamin B12 may help restrain pre-cancerous lung conditions in smokers.

5. Patients with Alzheimer’s show low levels of Vitamin B12.

6.3 Vitamin B 12 and folate are required for the synthesis of S-adenosylmethionine, a methyl group donor essential for the metabolism of neurotransmitters.

7. Vitamin B12 deficiency can be a factor in a variety of different health conditions and disorders.

8. Vitamin B12 has been suggested to help defend against hypersensitivity to sulfites.

Mercury Detox For Your Autistic Child

Are you seeing odd behavioural patterns and habits in your preschool child? Is your child having difficulty with speech such as difficulty in forming short phrases or/and with plenty of babbling? Is he having problems interacting socially with the other kids? These are possible signs that your child may just be autistic.

Autism is a neurological brain disorder. Some experts say that autism may be caused by mercury found in the body. Mercury is known to cause neurological disorders as it mainly triggers brain dysfunction. Mercury is likely to be absorbed by the body if it is presented as ethyl mercury that are usually used in thimerosal, preservatives, and additives and even in pediatric vaccines. Health Insurance & Cancers Affecting Young Adults

Nearly 65,600 adolescents and young adults (AYAs) aged 15–39 were diagnosed with cancer in 2005; that is according to the National Cancer Institute. On the brink of 2010, cancer cases aren’t getting any better. The incidence of specific cancer types varies dramatically across the AYA age continuum. For example, leukemias, lymphomas, and central nervous system (CNS) tumors are prevalent in younger AYAs; in those aged 20–39, these cancers decline in frequency while other cancers such as cervical, colorectal, and particularly breast cancer, comprise a growing share of AYA cancers. It is important to know that there are several types of Vitamin E. Vitamin E is actually a generic name for eight separate compounds. Some members of the vitamin E family are called tocopherols. These members include alpha tocopherol, beta tocopherol, gamma tocopherol, and delta tocopherol. Other members of the vitamin E family are called tocotrienols. These members include alpha, beta, gamma, and delta tocotrienol. Both groups all blended together in plants and animals, which is why the best form of vitamin E comes from your food.
