Substances in red wine makes people live up to 150 years oldResearchers have found a drug that can fight aging and make people live up to 150 years old. Surprisingly, the drug is a synthetic version of resveratrol which is found in red wine.

These substances are believed to provide anti-aging effect by increasing the activity of a protein called SIRT1. Pharmaceutical company GlaxoSmithKline has tested the drug in patients suffering from cancer, diabetes, and heart disease.

A total of 117 drugs tested showed that the new anti-aging is feasible and can prevent cancer, Alzheimer’s, and type-2 diabetes.

“Finally, this drug can treat a disease. Yet unlike existing drugs, this drug could prevent 20 diseases. As effect, this drug can slow down aging,” said Professor David Sinclair, as reported by the Daily Mail (10/03 ).

The SIRT1 which is the enzyme targets usually can be active in the presence of calorie restriction and exercise. However, this enzyme can also be activated by natural trigger, which is the resveratrol found in red wine.

This synthetic drug is believed to have the power of 100 times larger than the substances contained in red wine. Sinclair explains that their drugs can provide benefits such as diet and exercise, without affecting body weight.

Studies in diabetic patients showed a benefit in terms of metabolism, and reduction of red spots on the skin. Sinclair hopes one day this drug could be used as a preventive drug for certain types of dangerous diseases.

Research is still continuing to see the benefits of these drugs in healthy people. The findings suggest that this drug can slow aging. Some participants can live up to 150 years, but the target can not be ascertained until further research.
