Some Herbal Medicines Cause Allergies
DNA analysis on traditional Chinese medicines seized by Australian customs officials revealed that the herbal ingredients in these drugs may produce an allergic reaction or even toxic.
Some medicines also contain parts of animal species that are vulnerable and endangered species, such as the Asian black bear and Saiga antelope. “When you buy food products at the supermarket, whether it is local or imported, you expect the products are safe and a list of materials accurately describe what is in the product,” says Michael Bunce, of the Australian Wildlife Services Forensic and Ancient DNA Laboratory at Murdoch University, Australia.
