The Reason Behind Excessive Drooling in Babies

Most babies do like to drool. But not infrequently some baby drool too much. If you feel your baby tends to drool excessively, there may be a reason behind it. Often parents think that baby drool when they are hungry. Though it is not true.

There are many things that cause the baby to drool excessively. Usually saliva helps the baby eliminate bacteria in their mouth. Here are some reasons babies drool too much, as reported by Boldsky.

1. Teething
Most babies drool too much when they are growing teeth. Many baby begin to drool when their teeth arise. Babies will like to bite objects when they experience teething. This causes the salivary glands become over-active.

2. Infection
There is a possibility a baby has an infection in his/her mouth so they drool too much. Saliva is one of the ways the body uses to prevent and overcome infection. The possibility is that the baby’s immune system is triggered by an infection in the mouth and cause a lot of drooling.

3. Process of growth
Three month old babies usually produces lots of saliva. It is part of a growing and is very normal. Despite teething of babies usually occur before the age of six months, but the teeth usually begin to appear on the gums. This is what triggers the salivary glands to produce saliva that are hyperactive.

4. Digestion
Saliva produced by mouth can neutralize stomach acid. This will help the baby to relieve pain and soothe the digestive system. So, it does not matter when babies drool too much because there are also benefits for the baby’s digestion.

5. Acid Reflux
Sometimes milk already drank comes out again from the babies mouth. This is because their esophagus have not completely closed and can open at any time. Because of this, the baby is prone to acid reflux and vomiting. If this happens, the baby will feel uncomfortable, their throat and larynx will also feel discomfort. When the baby is producing a lot of saliva, they will help relieve irritation of the throat and reduces the burning sensation in the digestive tract.

Those are some of the reasons why many babies sometimes salivate. Often this is caused by something that is not too serious and dangerous. On the contrary, often salivating just could signify that the body reacts healthy.
