1. Smoking.

Nicotine increases cortisol levels and reduce the formation of B cell antibodies and T-cell response to an antigen.

A study published in PLoS One last February also found that vapor from e-cigarettes can damage the lungs and make them more susceptible to infection.

2. Drinking excessive alcohol.

Drinking too much alcohol will also lower the immune system. First, it eliminates the body nutrients which are able to boost the body’s valuable immunity.

Second, alcohols, like sugar, if consumed in excess amount can reduce the ability of white blood cells to kill germs.

High doses of alcohol suppresses the ability of white blood cells.

3. Lack of sleep.

Previous research had linked sleep deprivation with the development of diseases such as obesity, diabetes and hypertension.

Sleep helps maintain immune system function. While chronic sleep deprivation is a risk factor for immune system disorders.

4. Stress.

In the end, lack of sleep triggers the same response as chronic stress.
While you may not realize it, the physical and emotional demands of day-to-day responsibility indeed can deplete the immune system’s ability to fight off bacteria and viruses.
