There are two types of diabetes. Diabetes occurs due to damage of cells in the pancreas that produces insulin, so the body loses its ability to regulate blood sugar levels.
The symptoms are shown by high blood sugar levels and the inability of the body to produce insulin. Generally diabetes is characterized by frequent urination, easy thirsty, blurred vision and numbness in hands or feet.
Not only related to genetic factors and foods containing sugar, a number of other factors can also lead to abnormal blood sugar levels, such as stress, obesity, and unhealthy lifestyle.
Well, here are some things that can increase the risk of diabetes:
• Intake of white rice
Based on observations of four researches in China, Japan, the United States, and Australia involving 350 thousand respondents, any increase in intake of white rice was associated with increased risk of diabetes which is higher.
White rice has a relatively high glycemic index, a measure related to the speed of release of glucose into the bloodstream. White rice have fewer nutrients, including fiber and low magnesium, substances that can prevent type 2 diabetes.
• Sitting for too long
The University of Leicester shows that women who have a habit of sitting for long periods of up to seven hours a day have twice the risk of rapidly developing type 2 diabetes, compared to those who actively moves.
The study involving 505 respondents provided new evidence that the frequency of sitting too long has impact on insulin resistance and damage to trigger the release of proteins related to inflammation in women.
• Lack of sleep
Those who are used to sleeping less than five hours a day have twice the risk of developing diabetes than those who slept proportionally, 7-8 hours a day. Lack of rest are believed to interfere with the body’s circadian rhythm, an internal clock that regulates sleep naturally and wake cycles, as well as releasing stress hormones that affect too much sugar in the blood.
