Anorexia is an eating disorder that is caused by mental disorders. A person suffering from anorexia usually starts from feelings of inferiority and then depression that affects their eating patterns. Anorexia also usually affects those who are always excluded because of appearance.
This disease can cause fatal health problems such as malnutrition and death. Therefore, the medical world are competing to find ways to treat this disease. One is treating with hormone therapy.
As reported from bbc, there is a study that found a way to overcome anorexia. The study found that the oxytocin hormone is able to cure eating disorders. The hormone, known as the love hormone, is naturally released by the body when a person is having sex, childbirth, and breastfeeds. This hormone can make someone feel happy and can help overcome the anxiety and depression that can lead to anorexia.
The study, published in Psychoneuroendocrinology involved 31 patients suffering from anorexia. People suffering from anorexia previously only focused on images of the body shape they desire. But when they are treated so that the hormone oxytocin is released in their body, then they no longer seem to be too obsessed with body shape they desire.
