Three Powerful ‘Drugs’ to Fight Obesity

The disease which once was considered as a disease of adults, now can also be experienced by children. This is due to deposition of fat, and cholesterol and high sugar in the body. Respiratory problems or asthma are at greater risk experienced by children who are obese.

To overcome this problem, an associate professor of biomedical engineering has found an antidotes. Onions, green tea and olive leaf extracts have been studied to have the ability to fight obesity and related diseases such as heart disease, diabetes and fatty liver.

Professor Lindsay Brown, of the University of Southern Queensland, did tests on a variety of foods in rats. Some rats were fed an unhealthy, high sugar and fatty foods.

She found certain foods help prevent the growth of inflammatory cells in animal fat pads. Which is located in the abdomen and fat in the bloodstream.

According to the Daily Thelegraph, the results revealed that rats who ate foods such as onions, green tea, olive leaf extract, purple carrot and chia seeds decreased fat cells. Weight of rats also decreases at the end of the study, although its diet was still poor during the study.

The rats are also known to have increased liver function and cardiac function. Brown reveals, the main conclusions of this study is that people should eat better than eat less.

Onions, green tea and olive extracts contain flavonoids which are also found in apples and red wine.

These substances are believed to be able to control the metabolic system of the rats who ate foods high in fat and sugar. The findings were published in the Journal of Nutrition and the Current Pharmaceutical Biotechnology.
