Tomatoes Prevent Prostate Cancer
“Scientists believe the carotenoid pigment that gives red, yellow, and orange color on a number of fruits and vegetables prevent prostate cancer,” said John W. Erdman of the University of Illinois, according to the Times of India.
Researchers used isotopic labeling of tomato carotenoids with three carbon atoms heavier than carbon atoms of nature.
This allows tracking of tomatoes and absorption components in the body’s metabolism. In addition to carotenoids, the content of lycopene, phytoene and phytofluene, are expected to also have benefit of the health of male reproductive organs.
