Tricks to Avoid Junk Foods
Researchers from the California Institute of Technology reveals a simple secret to living a healthy life. They concluded that only by thinking of health before selecting foods can be a powerful weapon in order to avoid unhealthy foods like junk foods.
According to LiveScience, the researchers conducted brain imaging experiments on 33 adult participants who fasted for 3 hours. They were asked to lay in a functional magnetic resonance machine (fMRI). Furthermore, the participants faced imagees of 180 different food items ranging from chips, candy, apples and broccoli.
The research was carried out repeatedly by giving instructions to participants to consider three aspects of health considerations, delicacy and natural decision in choosing foods. Participants were given three seconds to respond to every image at the same time deciding the desire to take the picture presented.
The results showed that participants who were asked to think about health before choosing a food tends to avoid unhealthy foods. Unlike the participants who were free to determine the food naturally without thinking about the health factor.
Researchers concluded that as long as humans use these areas in the brain or the ventral medial prefrontal cortex to decide food they consume. But there are other parts of the brain that control decision-making that is capable which is the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex. The findings were published in the Journal of Neuroscience on July 27, 2011.
