Twin babies death risksTwin babies or even triplets does look very nice and fun. However, there are other dangers lurking behind this double happiness. Twins and triplet babies have five times higher risk of death in their first year than single babies.

Data in the UK in 2009 revealed that from 706 ,248 births, there are 3,180 infants who died die before their first birthday. Meaning that there is an average of 4.5 deaths per 1,000 births.

The death rate of twin birth is five times higher than single babies, each with a rate of 20.4 deaths per 1,000 births and 4.0 deaths per 1,000 births.

Twin infant mortality rate is the highest due to the very low weight of twins compared to a single baby. This number is alarming, because IVF program with more than one baby increases rapidly over the past decade.

On average, one in five pregnancies with IVF twins are two or three, compared with one in 80 babies conceived naturally. Multiple pregnancies also often puts the mother in complications, including miscarriage, premature birth, low birth weight, cerebral palsy, and death.

A recent study done by Birmingham University also found that parents of twins of two or three are more at risk of divorce. Nearly a third of couples who have twins of two divorced compared to couples with children born single which are only less than a quarter.

The reason is because the additional cost of twin births gives a financial burden that often affect the marriage.
