Vitamin C is Healthy for Prostate


A good and healthy prostate is essential for men, because an unhealthy prostate can cause various problems. One way to keep the prostate healthy is to consume vitamin C.

The prostate is a small gland the size of a walnut that surrounds the top of the urethra. The prostate functions to produce mixed fluid and enzymes needed by the sperm to stay healthy.

Various diseases can arise if someone’s prostate is not healthy, like prostate enlargement,  or the most serious is prostate cancer. In addition, disruption of the prostate will also cause problems in urination.

According to Livestrong, consuming vitamin C through foods, beverages or supplements can provide benefits to prostate health in several ways, which are:

1. Reducing the risk of prostate cancer
National Cancer Institute says that a person who consume vitamin C-rich vegetables like broccoli tends to have lower risk for developing prostate cancer.

In addition, Prostate Cancer Foundation, reported that consumption of 400 grams of broccoli per week can help stop the growth of tumors in prostate cancer.

2. Reducing the risk of prostate enlargement
Mayo Clinic said that consumption of vitamin C in vegetables may reduce the risk of prostate enlargement. Daily amount of vitamin C that is recommended for adult males are 90-2000 mg per day.

Vitamin C is found abundantly in vegetables like broccoli, cauliflower, kale, peppers and peas.

3. Helps fight prostatitis bacteria
Scientists from the University of Maryland Medical Center have observed that vitamin C can halt the growth of bacteria that can infect the prostate.

This condition can cause inflammation of prostate known as prostatitis. Some doctors recommend consumption of 500 mg vitamin C per day to help fight prostatitis.

In addition to consuming vitamin C, it should be balanced with regular exercise, reducing cholesterol and fat intake, reduce diuretic drinks such as coffee or tea as well as having regular sexual intercourse.
