Vitamin D supplement is unable to overcome knee pain

Vitamin D is often said to have an important role in maintaining bone health. Unfortunately, vitamin D supplements can not help patients to quickly heal from knee pain, according to new research.

As reported by My Health News Daily, the study was conducted by experts from Tufts University Medical Center in Boston. The researchers precisely conveyed that knee osteoarthritis patients who take vitamin D supplements every day for two years did not experience changes compared with those treated with a placebo effect.

Osteoarthritis of the knee is a condition that occurs due to knee cartilage goes down so that the bones rub against each other. Osteoarthritis of the knee is usually suffered by men and women aged over 50 years with an overweight body condition.

For symptoms, osteoarthritis causes knee or leg pain knee, swollen, and makes body movement quite limited. To date, a powerful drug to overcome this problem has not been found.

Previously, there was a research that says that osteoarthritis of the knee is caused by a deficiency of vitamin D in the body. But apparently taking supplements of vitamin D is not able to restore the knee condition as usual.

Meanwhile, Dr. Robert Graham of Lenox Hill Hospital who was not involved in the study gave his opinion.

“The research is pretty disappointing for people who had been taking vitamin D supplements to relieve osteoarthritis knee condition they sustained,” said Dr Graham.

In addition to vitamin D, therapy is also often done to overcome knee pain experienced by patients. Sometimes doctors also offer knee replacement surgery to deal with serious cases of osteoarthritis of the knee.

The results of the research on the efficacy of vitamin D supplementation to overcome knee pain had also been reported in the Journal of the American Medical Association.
