Want to Live Long? Do Not Sit More Than 3 Hours!

sitting too long dangersHow long do you spend time sitting in a day? Recent studies have found that sitting over three hours a day could potentially reduce life expectancy by two years. While watching television over two hours cuts chances of survival of 1.4 years. There are also limits on how long a child can watch television.

“Increasing sedentary behavior or lack of movement is a serious risk factor, as well as smoking and obesity,” says Peter Katzmarzyk, associate professor of epidemiology of the Pennington Biomedical Research Center, Louisiana, United States, according to Time.

Katzmarzyk analyzed five previous studies involving 167,000 men and women aged 18-90 years from various countries.

Many people do not realize the dangers of sitting too long. Many feels not to have health problems by exercising at least 30 minutes a day. They do not realize that filling rest with 23.5 hours of physical activity are also important.

“When you sit down, your leg muscles are not really active. And you will have difficulty managing blood glucose, which would have an impact on health,” he said.
