What Causes Babies to Wake up at Night
For a baby, waking up every three to four hours at night is a normal event. Usually the main cause why they wake up is because they feel hungry, or because they wet their beds. Another cause why babies often wake up at night is because they already had a quite long sleep before.
If you happen to be a mother and has a baby who often wakes up at night, then here are some other reasons you should know why your baby wakes up at night besides being hungry, as reported by the Circle of Moms.
1. Irregular sleeping hours
“Babies do not have regular hours of sleep until about the age of six months.” This is a statement made by the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP).
For babies who were just born for 16-17 hours per day, they can only sleep one or two hours at a time. The bigger they are, babies usually takes less time to sleep. Six-month-old babies are also reasonable to wake up at night and go back to sleep after a few minutes.
2. Environmental Change and Routines
If you have a baby who usually sleeps soundly, but all of a sudden often to wake up, then there is a possibility that the root of the problem is due to changes in room temperature, or the amount of light and sound in the babies room.
A baby can wake up if they here their parent’s snoring, movements, or perhaps your cough. You should always check whether your baby feels hot, or whether they feel cold.
3. Pain
Pain or a hurting feeling can also cause a baby to wake up at night. Parents should take their babies to the doctor if they face this kind of situation.
4. Growth
Babies sleep that is disrupted could also be a sign that your baby is about to grow and learn new things like crawling or walking. Your baby will once again sleep soundly when s/he had succeeded.
5. Dentition
Your baby who is growing teeth often wakes up at night. The feelings of uncomfortable is what causes the baby to wake up at night. Many babies even have to experience a fever when their teeth are growing.
6. Feeling restless because they sleep separated from the Parents
Another thing that can cause a baby to wake up at night is because they sleep separately from their parents. This often happens in babies who have an age of 9-12 months old, who are starting to sleep separately from their parents. While in babies aged between 6 months-2 years old, this usually occur in them.
They often wake up at night and call their parents name. This is quite normal in the stages of emotional development of children.
